About
Labors of Love: Experiencing the Divine Mother is the BFA work of Josephine Clark. Consisting of one twelve-foot tall, conical structure, this immersive installation is representative of The Divine Mother. This work is intentionally decorated to instill feelings of awe, safety, and love in the viewer. All materials used are biodegradable, reminding viewers of their connection to the Earth, also known as “our Mother”. Bamboo, Castor wax, Cheesecloth, Dried Oranges, Dried Pussy Willows, Dried Roses, Natural Sisal Rope, Thread, Twisted Jute Twine, and Rice Paper have been utilized to represent The Divine Mother. Additionally, these materials represent labors of love, in various forms, balance, and gentle strength. As viewers enter this installation, they are filled with feelings of expansive love, which is ultimately what this divine matriarchal figure represents.
